Create and Manage Apps in a Project

An App is an interactive tool that you build for work in a Project [link to the Projects article. You can either describe the tool with a prompt or start with a template. Apps are kept in a Project so you can return to it, change it, share it, and use its data with your work.

Open Apps

Open a Project, then select Apps from the Project menu. The Apps tab shows Apps in that Project. Use a filter to show All apps, Published, Drafts, or Archived. Select an App card to open it. The Templates tab lets you browse available templates.

Create an App from a prompt

  1. Select Create → Create from prompt.

  2. In Details, type what you want the App to do. Include the data, layout, and measures that matter to you. You can attach files as data sources.

  3. Continue the chat to refine the App. Check Preview beside the chat as it builds.

  4. Select Save as Draft to keep the work for later. When the App is ready and Save & Publish is available, use it to publish the App.

For example, you can ask for a dashboard that shows a portfolio company's revenue, margin, and budget variance by month. Name the files that hold those figures and describe the charts or tables you need.

Create an App from a template

  1. Select Create → Create from template.

  2. In Choose App, select Private Investing, Public Investing, or Investment Banking.

  3. Use the Categories menu to narrow the templates. Review a template's name and description before you select it.

Templates give you a starting point. After you choose one, review the App's data and settings for your Project.

Edit an App

On the Apps tab, open an App card's actions menu and select Edit. You can also open the App and select Edit App. The editor has three tabs:

Tab

What you can do

Details

Build or change the App and inspect its preview.

Settings

Set the App name, description, market group, category, update mode, product tour, and include Additional sources.

Data Sources

Add files, select a source to preview it, and refresh its data.

Save changes in Settings with Save.

In Details, use Save as Draft or Save & Publish as appropriate.

Choose data sources

Open Edit App → Data Sources → Add files. The file picker can show files from This Project, Notes, Uploads, Generated Files, Shared Market Data, and connected sources such as Ansarada and Datasite VDRs. Select the files you need and confirm your selection. The sources available to you depend on your account and connections.

For text that is not in a file, open Settings → Additional sources and select Static Text from the plus menu. Enter the text and save the settings. This text is stored with the App and refreshed with its other configured sources.

Set how data updates

In Edit App → Settings, choose an Update mode:

Mode

Use it when…

None (static)

The App does not need a refresh control or schedule.

Manual (refresh in app)

A user should start a refresh from the App.

Scheduled

The App should refresh on a schedule.

A refresh updates all configured data sources together. Data Sources also has Refresh Data. If you select Scheduled, the editor shows schedules and an Add Schedule control.

You can also turn on a Product tour in Settings. The tour introduces the App's main sections when each user first opens it and is enabled by default.

Manage an App

Open the App card's actions menu on the Apps tab. It has controls to Rename, Duplicate, Edit Data Sources, and Refresh Data. It also has Share as Template with Firm, Duplicate Template to Another Project, Publish, Archive, and Delete. The Publish action can be unavailable while an App is still being built.

Use Share as Template with Firm only when the App is ready for others to reuse. Check its data and content before you share or publish it.
