Gauge trends in private markets

D
Written by David Mickelson

Market Index surfaces the Private Market Index, sector-level scores derived from anonymized, aggregated deal-room activity. It shows the level and seriousness of private-market M&A interest by sector, geography, and time window—a real-time 'temperature gauge' for private M&A.

The tab presents a leaderboard of sectors, each with three core scores plus momentum and market-share context.

Score

What it measures

How to read it

Deal Activity

Deal-making/process activity

Higher = more deals moving

Buyer Activity

Buyer-side engagement

Higher = more buyers active

Buyer Commitment

Depth and seriousness of engagement

Higher = stronger intent

Compare Buyer Activity and Buyer Commitment. A sector may attract many buyers but limited follow-through, or fewer buyers with stronger commitment.

Each tab graph shows how scores are changing; deal and buyer share, the sector’s portion of total market activity.

Shape the view

  • Tabs - Display results by Deal Activity, Buyer Activity, or Buyer Commitment.

  • Plot - Choose Score or Growth.

  • Locations - Filter by region or view globally.

  • Time window - Use shorter windows for responsiveness or longer windows for smoother trends.

If the selected scope has insufficient data, the tab withholds unreliable scores—an indication to broaden the geography or extend the time window.
